  • Imagine IM — Australia’s leading graphene applications company — establishes its first foreign subsidiary
  • Appoints Managing Director for new Finnish company, and Chief Revenue Officer for Europe

Sydney, April 23: Imagine Intelligent Materials, Australia’s leading graphene applications company, has appointed Jaakko Kaidesoja to be Chief Revenue Officer of the company’s European operations and Managing Director of Imagine’s Finnish company, Imagine Intelligent Materials Oy (Finland).

Chris Gilbey, Executive Chairman and CEO of Imagine IM Limited, said, “I am delighted that Jaakko has agreed to join Imagine. We have spent a lot of time planning our first entry into export markets. The critical factor is always to identify the right people to lead an operation and to bring home commercial results. I have no doubt that Jaakko is going to be a tremendous asset to the company.

“Jaakko spent more than 20 years as a senior executive in Nokia and held numerous senior financial positions before becoming VP of games. He subsequently became VP of Portfolio Management, successfully setting the financial targets and driving the growth of Nokia into one of the world’s leading device brands. He has also served in senior management at Microsoft and then within the Posti Group. He has a rich history of working in businesses that derive revenues from multiple sources with licensing, product sales and software as a service models all functioning in parallel. This is where Imagine is going, as we move into developing a vertically integrated graphene – Internet of Materials business.”

Jaakko Kaidesoja said, “I think that Finland is a perfect bridgehead to enter the greater European market. There is a massive interest in graphene commercialisation right now, as European manufacturing companies embrace the commercial potential of the Internet of Things – and in parallel, as the leading companies realise that product differentiation is critical. I believe that Imagine is positioned to take advantage of this opportunity right now.”

The appointment comes on the back of Imagine developing commercial relationships in Finland, with the assistance of Business Finland, who organised a visit by Chris Gilbey and senior executives in March to a number of leading Finnish companies.

Chris Gilbey said, “I was totally amazed at the reception I had during my weeklong visit to Finland. I arrived in the country with hopes rather than expectations. I left Finland with confidence that Imagine will be closing commercial agreements with several of the country’s largest companies over the next three months, and with confidence that the technology offerings that we are developing are, in fact world leading.

About graphene:

Graphene’s discoverers were awarded the Nobel Prize in 2010. Graphene is the first two-dimensional material and is classed as a “super-material”, offering extremely high electrical and thermal conductivity, hydrophobicity, strength, and impermeability to all gases.

About Imagine Intelligent Materials:

Imagine IM is a vertically integrated graphene applications developer and manufacturer. Imagine IM’s conductive coatings turn textiles into smart sensors. Imagine IM’s integrated communications systems capture sensing data and process it to provide real-time location-based information to the end user. The company was founded in 2014 by a group of scientists and engineers led by Chris Gilbey and Phil Aitchison, with a vision to create disruptive products and solutions that leverage the promise of graphene. Imagine IM has an innovative certification and licensing model that ensures customers and licensees can be confident that their products will always perform to the necessary standards. Imagine IM is the first company in the world to develop conductive geosynthetic materials using functionalised graphene.
